FE pay England recommendations

Pay offer in further education colleges in England 2007/08

At a meeting on 26 June 2007, the Association of Colleges made a final pay offer for 2007-08:

  • 2% on all salaries and allowances from 1 August 2007
  • a further 1% from 1 February 2008
  • for scale points 4-11 inclusive (up to £15,057) on the current pay spine the second instalment will be rounded up to ensure that the overall award for 2007-2008 is £500.
  • negotiations on a Joint Agreement on training and development
  • negotiations on a national agreement on guidance on work life balance and working time
  • case studies on how colleges use the Advanced Teacher and Training Scale, with a view to providing examples of good practice.
  • joint statement on implementation of new pay scales.

The offer was contingent upon acceptance by all six unions in membership of the National Joint Forum and although five unions accepted, one union, UCU, rejected the offer and gave notice of their intention to ballot members in January 2008 for industrial action.

The five unions in favour of acceptance wrote to the AoC requesting that the AoC recommend to colleges full implementation of the offer. The AoC did recommend the agreement to colleges.
