Advice for members on cover during strike action

It has been brought to our attention that members of Voice in some schools are being asked to cover the work of colleagues who are taking strike action.

Voice does not support or condone the strike in any way; but our policy is that our members do not provide such cover. They are advised to do their own normal work and not to take on the work of striking colleagues.

We believe that this industrial action has been signalled long enough in advance for schools to make appropriate arrangements without requiring members of other unions to cover for Unison members.

Most local authorities will have issued advice to their schools and this should have included advice on not requiring other staff to cover for striking colleagues.
