Media briefing:  Changing role of head teachers

Commenting for the Education Guardian’s Heads Up supplement (4 November 2008) ("Revision classes"), General Secretary Philip Parkin ‘sees the need for change but wonders whether some heads, particularly those who assume leadership of more than one school, may find themselves bearing extra responsibilities without adequate support’.

He said: "There is also a need for clarification over the precise remit of the heads in some of the new models. Some of the executive head roles, for example, have no clear definition and job description.

"The regulations say a school can only have one head teacher so there has to be some concern over who is accountable."
