Nannies

Voice. Sound advice from the union for education professionals – Nannies, teachers, childcare, support staff and students.

Voice is the only trade union that provides a membership service for Nannies.

We represent a united strength that will support, protect and listen to you throughout your career, and we believe that every professional in early years, childcare and education, has the right to be heard. That’s why we offer a service that can enrich your working life - making Voice membership so much more than just an insurance policy.

We believe all nannies in the UK should be registered, and we are part of a campaign group to make this happen.

Nannies

Nannies are employed directly by parents (sometimes by more than one set of parents in a 'nanny share')  and work in the home of the children they care for.

Nannies should not be confused with registered childminders who are self-employed and look after children in their own home and who do not qualify for Voice membership.

The safety of children, parents and nannies themselves is crucial. That is why Voice insists that all its members are relevantly qualified, have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly known as a CRB disclosure), including a Protection of Children Act (POCA) list check.

How to become a Voice nanny member

We will provide you with an information pack on all you need to know about working as a nanny ranging from finding the right childcare qualifications, pay and conditions, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formally known as CRB disclosure), employment contracts and paying tax, to registering with nanny agencies.

Voice nanny membership offers nannies a wide range of benefits, including some of the following

  • Advice, Support and personal representation

  • Property / Motor Vehicle / Personal Accident & Hospitalisation Insurance

  • Personal injury

Regulation Matters

Working for the welfare of children, comprises  BAPN (British Association of Professional Nannies), Chiltern College, Morton Michel, NannytaxNorland College, Parenting UK, REC (The Recruitment & Employment Confederation) and Voice.

The Campaign calls for the registration of all childcarers in the UK, so that nannies and other home childcarers are brought under the same regulatory umbrella and held to the registration standards currently required of childminders in order to safeguard children, improve childcare standards, and create consistency in the childcare industry.
