Letter from Children’s Commissioner for Wales

Voice Cymru has received a letter from the Children’s Commissioner for Wales on COVID-19 and schools

By Elizabeth Williams, Senior Professional Officer (Wales)

Voice Cymru has received a letter from the Children’s Commissioner for Wales on the subject of coronavirus/COVID-19 and the wider opening of schools.

I am encouraged by the positive stance of the Children's Commissioner for Wales (compared to the Children's Commissioner for England's criticism of government-union "squabbling") in understanding that children returning to school is a complex decision and that there is a delicate balance between the health and safety of children and teachers, and the wellbeing of children to be back in school.

Voice is working with the Welsh Government and other unions to ensure that children will be able to return to school as soon as all the arrangements have been put in place to ensure that children and the education workforce are safe to do so.
