Customer First Standard

Voice is proud to have achieved the “Putting the Customer First” standard by Customer First – the National Standard for Customer Service.

Voice is the only education union to have been awarded the Customer First Award. Our independent union, which represents teachers, headteachers, lecturers, education support staff, childcarers and others across the UK, is proud to hold this award that proves our dedication to supporting our members and volunteers to such a high standard.

Voice first achieved the Standard in 2009, and has subsequently been re-accredited in 2016 and 2018. To achieve this award, we had to commit to, and be assessed against, Customer First’s criteria, including:

  • identifying and meeting customers’ needs;
  • dealing effectively with complaints and queries;
  • developing and improving our services; and
  • developing staff skills.

Voice’s General Secretary, Deborah Lawson said:

“We are delighted to have been re-accredited. This achievement recognises the hard work and dedication of our staff at our head office in Derby, our Edinburgh office, and across the UK. Our success as a union is based on our commitment to our members. We have always prided ourselves on providing a dedicated and personal service and striving for quality in everything we do. We know from members how much they value Voice membership. Being re-accredited for this Standard demonstrates our commitment to our members and to making a positive difference to them."

Following our most recent assesment, the Customer First assessor stated:

"Voice ensures that their members are at the heart of everything they do and respond swiftly and effectively to support member."
