Voice Scotland comments on guidance on reopening early learning and childcare services

Guidance from Scottish Government

Commenting on the publication of guidance on reopening early learning and childcare services, Dougie Atkinson, Voice's Senior Professional Officer (Scotland), said:

“While we welcome this guidance on the reopening of early years settings in Scotland, it is very disappointing that it has only been published now – almost three weeks later than the publication of the guidance on the reopening of schools in Scotland.

"Many of our members are already back in their settings preparing for the return of children in some shape or form, and to expect them to do that in the absence of guidance agreed with the unions reflects poorly on local authority employers and Scottish Government.

"It is only down to the professionalism and commitment of our early years practitioners – some of the poorest paid in Scottish education – that our nurseries and pre-school settings will be ready to accept children back safely over the summer.”
