Voice welcomes Early Learning Goal proposals

General Secretary comments on proposed changes to the Early Learning Goals announced 22 June 2018.

Commenting on the proposed changes to the Early Learning Goals announced today (22 June 2018), Deborah Lawson, General Secretary of Voice: the union for education professionals, said:

"We welcome initiatives that aim to enhance the development and learning of children.

"Voice also welcomes the aim to reduce teacher workload, especially because this enables teachers to spend more time doing what they do best - teach.

"We are also pleased to see that the reforms aim to provide clarity to ensure consistent interpretation of the Early Learning Goals, as this will give greater weight to teachers' professional judgement.

"We look forward to seeing the full details and the results of the trials, and will take part in the consultation.

"Voice will continue to work with the Department for Education (DfE) to ensure that these and other changes are in the best interests of children, their learning and development, and early years professionals, teachers and teaching assistants."
