Voice welcomes plans for schools and childcare in Northern Ireland

Announcements by Department of Education

Voice: The Union for Education Professionals has welcomed the announcements by Education Minister Peter Weir on the reopening of schools in Northern Ireland and the childcare recovery plan.

General Secretary Deborah Lawson said:

“We are pleased that these announcements have been made now so that settings can plan ahead.

“If there is sound scientific evidence on the reduction of social distancing for children, then this is good news, provided that there is a plan B in the event of a future spike in cases.

“Despite the change in social distancing, it may still not be possible for all schools to open with a full complement of pupils in August if they do not have sufficient space.”
